Filome

Filome user manual

Everything Filome does, in the order you will meet it. The screens are the same on Android and iPhone unless it says otherwise.

Getting started

When you open Filome for the first time it asks for your name and offers two ways in:

  • Start fresh makes your first vault, with the usual categories ready.
  • Restore from a backup brings back everything from a backup file or from your cloud backup. See A new phone.

The tabs at the bottom are Home (your documents), Sent and Received (what went in and out of Filome), and Share. The search and settings buttons are at the top.

Vaults

A vault holds the documents of one person or one business: you, your father, your daughter, your shop. Each has its own categories and documents.

  • Tap the vault card at the top of Home to switch vaults.
  • Choose + New Vault: Add a Person or Business to add one. Give it a name and a colour.
  • Change renames a vault or changes its colour. A vault you delete waits in Deleted Files for 30 days.
  • On the Share tab, All documents shows every vault together.

Home and categories

Home lists the categories of the vault in use. Tap a category to open it; tap it again, or press Back, to close it.

  • Built-in documents (an ID card, a passport and others) show as rows. An empty row has Scan and Choose file buttons.
  • More documents opens the whole category: add your own documents, make folders, switch documents on or off, and arrange them.
  • To arrange, hold the handle on the right of a row for a moment, then drag. The list scrolls by itself near the top or bottom.
  • More Categories at the bottom of Home holds the categories that are switched off, and Deleted Files. Tap Done to close it.
  • You can add, rename and remove categories of your own. Two categories cannot share a name.

Adding a document

A built-in document

  1. Open its category on Home.
  2. Tap Scan for the camera, or Choose file for a photo or PDF you already have.
  3. For a card with two sides, add the front, then the back.
  4. Tap Save document.

A document of your own

  1. Open a category and tap More documents, then Add a new document.
  2. Type a name, then scan or choose its pages. Add as many pages as you need.
  3. Tap Save document.

Documents of your own count towards your plan; built-in ones never do.

A document's page

Tap a saved document to open its page. You can look at every page full screen, see when it was added and where it was shared, and:

ShareSend it as it is, as one PDF or as a ZIP.
Copy or move to another vaultChoose the vault, the category, and the folder or month there.
Rescan / ReplaceTake a new picture of a page. Back leaves the saved one as it was.
Rename, Move to another category, Put in a folderFor documents of your own.
DeleteIt goes to Deleted Files for 30 days.

Folders, years and months

Bills and receipts that come every month have folders by year. Utility bills start with a folder for this year, rent receipts with one of their own, and salary slips and bank statements with theirs, for example "Salary Slips 2026".

  • Open a year folder to see January to December. Tap a month (or its +) to scan straight away. The document is named for you, for example Manu-Elect-Jan-2026.
  • On a year folder, ⋮ then Add next year makes the next year with its twelve months.
  • In any category, the ⋮ next to Create folder offers Add a year-wise folder or Add a month-wise folder ("January 2026").

My Notes

Open My Notes and tap Add a new note. A note is named by its date ("29 Oct 2026 - 1") and saved when you go back or leave the app. Tap the title to rename it. ⋮ has Share, Details and Delete. Emptying a saved note asks whether to delete it.

PDFs and other files

  • Rearrange pages on a PDF: hold and drag to change the order, × to remove a page, Add pages to scan or add a PDF or picture. Saving makes a new document next to the original, which stays as it was.
  • Add a password (Android) makes a protected copy of a PDF. Filome does not keep the password: write it down.
  • A PDF with a password asks for it every time it is opened.
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, text and e-book files are kept as they are and open in their own app with Open in another app.
  • A ZIP file can be unpacked: each file inside becomes a document.

Sharing

  1. On the Share tab, tick The whole vault or the categories you need. Or open a document and tap Share.
  2. Untick any document you do not want, then tap Share.
  3. Choose how: The original format, One PDF (you can pick and order the pages) or a ZIP file.
  4. Keep or change the file's name, then choose the app.

Each document remembers where it was shared; the Sent tab lists it all.

Opening and attaching files

  • Open with Filome / Share to Filome (Android): a PDF, picture or file in another app can be opened in Filome, looked at, printed, or saved into a category.
  • Attach from Filome (Android): in Gmail choose Attach file, then "Browse files in other apps", then Filome. In WhatsApp choose Document, then "Browse other docs", then Filome. Pick the documents and how to send them; they are attached and Filome closes.

Tap the search button and type part of a name, a category, a folder or a file name. Capital letters do not matter. Tick All vaults to search every vault.

Deleted Files

Deleted documents and vaults wait in Deleted Files (under More Categories) for 30 days, then they are gone. Restore one from there before that. Documents in Deleted Files do not count towards your plan and are not in backups.

Backups

Settings, then Backup and restore.

Backup to a file

Makes a locked .fdb file of everything, or of one vault. The first time, you choose a passphrase and Filome shows a recovery key. Keep the recovery key somewhere safe, away from the phone: with the passphrase, it is the only way to open your backups.

Cloud backup

  • Sign in with your e-mail address (Filome e-mails you a code; there is no password), and agree to cloud backup.
  • Back up now sends only what is new or changed. Everything is locked on the phone first.
  • Back up by itself backs up after every change, every day or every week, on Wi-Fi only if you like. A small cloud at the top blinks while it works.
  • Your plan decides how big the cloud backup may be.

Your account and plans

  • Settings, Your account: sign in, sign out, or Delete my account (see Delete your account).
  • An account is used on one phone at a time. Signing in on another phone signs the first one out.
  • Settings, Plan, shows your plan and the others. Plans are bought through Google Play or the App Store.
  • If you move to a smaller plan, Filome asks you to make a backup and choose what to keep; the rest goes to Deleted Files.

Printing

With a plan or add-on that includes printing, a print button appears on a document's page, on a file opened in Filome, and in a note's ⋮ menu.

  • Pictures and PDFs print as one PDF. A PDF with a password asks for it first. Notes print on A4.
  • Android: choose the printer in the print screen, or "All printers" to add one. Settings, Printers opens the phone's print settings.
  • iPhone: AirPrint printers on the same Wi-Fi show up by themselves.

A new phone

  1. Install Filome and choose Restore from a backup.
  2. Choose your backup file, or sign in for your cloud backup.
  3. Type your passphrase, or your recovery key.
  4. If the new phone already has documents, choose what to keep from each side.
